Balgonie Community

The community of Balgonie is unique with its’ rural atmosphere which is evident by their hosting of several sports and cultural activities. Such events include the fall dinner theatre at the town Multiplex. The Stardome and curling rinks are the centre of winter activities. The outdoor swimming pool is a hit in the summer, as are the sports fields which host the soccer and ball teams. The Recreation Board and the many volunteers coordinate these activities as well as the Balgonie Public Library.

Balgonie has the district elementary and high school facilities. Recently a new daycare facility was opened. Several churches are available for worship. There is a hotel and grocery store on Main Street, two eating establishments, Jesters’ and Subway. There is a very active and proficient volunteer Fire Department, two service stations and two service garages. Recently, the town received government grants to build a new water storage and treatment facility to support their own well water system that was completed in 2013.

The Town of Balgonie annexed several properties in 2014. One major commercial property now contains the Flying J Truck stop. This property then received the Town services. The Town completed a new waterline from Pilot Butte and a new Water Storage Facility to service the Town water requirements now and for future growth. With the commercial properties the Town did a major upgrade to their Sewage Lagoon, which was completed in 2019.
